New Year's is meant to be a symbol of new beginnings.
I've never experienced a New Year's before, though, so maybe it only counts as a beginning in general for me. The Ashil clones are all a year old tomorrow.
Regardless, the idea of having your slate cleaned for another year of chances is a nice one, even if it's not really true.
It's up to the people around you, not you, to consider yourself free of past choices. As long as there's one single person out there who remembers the you of last year, you'll never be able to start over. Cutting ties with society entirely is a foolish way to try and make New Year's a reality. But changing yourself for the better is always a good thing.
Maybe that's why these "resolutions" always seem to fail. There's always someone around to say, "But I thought you did smoke," or, "Wasn't this one of your favorite foods at one point?" And even without the same people around, it's hard to change when you remember yourself.
I wonder if there's anyone else out there who really cares about that, though. The world is probably too distracted with its giant hangover now.
